about

About the record:
The album was recorded to 1" tape over the course of 2 days in Summer '09. Day 1 at Brooklyn's Kennel Studio was laying down all tracks for the A, B, and C sides with Billy "Prince Polo" Szeflinski. All 3 were recorded live with the full band, with vocals and additional percussion overdubbed. Brandee Younger entered the studio that night, and we had to carry her full sized harp up 3 flights of stairs. The next day all songs were mixed with DB and Prince Polo at the helms. A computer was not turned on all weekend. The songs heard on the vinyl pressing are the strict analog mixes, therefore are unique to any digital version available.

About the CD:
The session was later digitized and remixed by HB at Grandma's Studio. We then had Calamity of DXA lay down a verse on the C side, as well as sent around the A side stems to a handful of artists. The CD version contains a few of these remixes, plus 2 bonus dubs from the Prince Polo analog mixes.

About the book:
We asked a dozen of our favorite artists to conceptualize "Culture Pirate". With submissions from painters to photographers to Lego designers, the 28 pages filled up fast with eclectic & amazing art.
